Over the past few days, the Northern region has experienced an intensified cold wave, with maximum temperatures consistently below normal limits and night temperatures plummeting in certain areas.

The adverse weather conditions have resulted in the delayed operation of several flights and trains. On Tuesday, sixteen Delhi-bound trains faced delays attributed to weather-related conditions.

IMD has forecasted dense fog conditions in the morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until January 14. Additionally, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha are expected to experience similar conditions until the following day. Jammu is also anticipated to witness dense fog conditions in the morning hours today.

The weather department has issued a Cold Day to Severe Cold Day alert for Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Punjab, in particular, is currently reeling under the grip of a severe Cold Wave.

Temperature Anomalies:

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, six notches below normal. Amritsar reported a maximum temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, and Faridkot also experienced temperatures below normal limits.

Haryana’s Temperature Conditions:

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while Hisar registered 12 degrees Celsius. Other regions, including Karnal, Rohtak, and Bhiwani, reported temperatures below normal limits, as per a weather department report.

Extreme Cold Conditions in Himachal Pradesh:

Himachal Pradesh is currently witnessing extremely cold conditions due to strong icy winds sweeping the region. Kufri, near Shimla, received the first traces of snow, recording -0.4 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. The weather department predicts dry weather conditions in HP until January 15, with cautionary notes on potential dense fog.

Challenges in Madhya Pradesh:

In Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal, dense fog resulted in low visibility on Tuesday. Meteorologist Ramendra Kumar from IMD Bhopal highlighted that the fog is expected to persist in the next 24 hours, with the possibility of light rainfall in Gwalior Chambal division. Several cities, including Gwalior, Naugaon, Datia, Shivpuri, and Khajuraho, reported low temperatures.

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days:

The meteorological expert emphasized that the weather is likely to remain cold over the next two to three days in western Madhya Pradesh, with a chance of light rain in the Gwalior Chambal division.
