The night between January 31 and February 1 witnessed continuous rainfall, impacting various parts of Delhi, including Punjabi Bagh, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Delhi Cantt, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, and IGI Airport. The rain intensity ranged from light to moderate, contributing to the rise in the minimum temperature.

On February 1, the minimum temperature in Delhi soared to 12.3 degrees Celsius, marking a significant four-degree increase above the seasonal average. This abrupt change in temperature has caught the attention of residents and weather experts alike.

Forecast for February 2

While there is a low chance of rain on February 2, the influence of the western disturbance is expected to diminish. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be around 20 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature hovering around 9 degrees Celsius. However, a new western disturbance is anticipated to affect the city starting from February 3.

Extended Impact on North India

The current weather situation, identified as the western disturbance, is anticipated to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to specific areas of North India until February 5. The IMD reports a cyclonic storm in north-western Rajasthan and nearby regions. Furthermore, there is a potential for snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to this weather system.

Forecast Beyond February 3

Commencing from February 3, the western disturbance is expected to impact northwest India, leading to light to moderate rain and snowfall in regions such as Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The western Himalayan region and certain parts of Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience rainfall in the upcoming days.

Sporadic Rainfall Pattern

The Met department forecasts light to moderate rain in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan on February 2. This pattern of sporadic rain is expected to continue from February 3 to February 4 in these regions.

Regional Impact

As per Skymet Weather, there is a possibility of light rain in northern Madhya Pradesh on February 4 and 5. Additionally, light to moderate rain is anticipated in Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, South Tamil Nadu, and South Kerala. The upper regions of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh could witness light to moderate rain and snowfall.

Fog Alert

Dense fog is likely to prevail in certain areas of Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, adding to the challenging weather conditions.
