Contrasting Weather Patterns
- In January 2023, Delhi received a normal rainfall of 20mm, but February saw zero rainfall, deviating from the normal 21.3mm.
- However, January 2024 remained dry, whereas the first five days of February became the wettest in the last decade, measuring 30.8mm of rainfall.
Weather Forecast for Delhi Ncr
For the national capital Delhi, the IMD predicts a mainly clear sky today with moderate fog in the morning. The expected temperature range is around 9 to 20 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall Forecast by IMD
- Dry weather is expected to prevail over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
- Similarly, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh are also likely to experience dry weather.
- Moderate rainfall or snowfall is predicted over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur & Tripura during 6-7 February.
Dense Fog Alert by IMD
- Very dense fog conditions are likely in Punjab on February 6th.
- Dense fog conditions are expected in Haryana, north Rajasthan, Jharkhand on February 6th, and over Odisha on February 6th and 7th.

The dense fog, especially in Punjab, may lead to various impacts, including:
- Disruption of transportation: Airports, highways, and railway routes may be affected.
- Driving challenges: Drivers may experience slower journey times and increased risk of road traffic collisions.
- Power line tripping: There’s a risk of power lines tripping in areas affected by very dense fog.
- Health concerns: Dense fog contains pollutants that can affect lung health, potentially leading to wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath upon exposure.
Minimum Temperature Forecast
- The IMD predicts a 2-4°C fall in minimum temperatures over many parts of Northwest India during the next three days, with no significant change thereafter.
- Similarly, there will be a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C over many parts of Central India during the next five days, while no significant change is expected in other parts of North India.
