As the cold wave maintains its firm hold on Delhi and its neighboring regions, residents awoke on Monday to a city blanketed in a thin layer of fog, with the minimum temperature settling at 6.8 degrees Celsius—two notches below the seasonal norm. The chilling weather persisted from the previous day when the capital recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius, marking a departure of three degrees from the average for this time of year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) foresees generally cloudy skies in Delhi, accompanied by the possibility of light rainfall or drizzle on January 31 and February 1. This forecast follows a trace amount of rainfall experienced on January 24 against the backdrop of the prevailing cold wave conditions in North India.

According to the Meteorological Department, two consecutive western disturbances are poised to impact North India from January 30 to February 3. In the wake of these disturbances, the likelihood of light to moderate, or even fairly widespread, rainfall and snowfall is anticipated in various regions, including Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh over the next seven days.

The IMD predicts isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall in the Kashmir Valley on January 30 and 31, as well as in Himachal Pradesh on January 31. Furthermore, the weather office indicates the expectation of light to moderate rainfall/snowfall in Uttarakhand, along with light rainfall in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh from January 31 to February 4.

Dense Fog and Cold Wave Forecast

The weather forecast suggests that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to persist for a few hours during the night/morning in some or many parts of Uttar Pradesh on January 30. Additionally, isolated pockets of Rajasthan are expected to experience dense fog on the same day. Further, dense fog and cold day conditions are predicted to prevail for a few hours during the night/morning in specific areas of Bihar on January 30.

As of today, the minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to hover around 11 degrees Celsius, with a maximum temperature reaching up to 23 degrees Celsius. The mercury is anticipated to stay around 12 degrees Celsius throughout the day, accompanied by a wind speed of approximately 2.86. The wind direction is projected to be around 111 degrees with a gust speed of 6.04.
