As the city emerged from its slumber, the maximum temperature settled at 23.2 degrees Celsius, offering a mild and pleasant start to the day.

Analyzing the weather data from IMD, Delhi experienced a minimum temperature today two notches below the season’s average. In contrast, the maximum temperature stood one notch above the season’s average, creating a weather equilibrium that captivated the capital.

Improved Visibility: A Contrast from Yesterday

Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, reported a significant improvement in visibility at 1.8 kilometers at 7:00 am, compared to a mere 200 meters observed the previous day. The overnight light rains played a pivotal role in not only refreshing the city but also enhancing air quality and reducing fog, leading to improved visibility across Delhi-NCR.

According to the latest forecast by the weather department, Delhi is expected to witness a generally cloudy sky with light rain throughout the day, courtesy of a fresh western disturbance. Beyond that, the capital is anticipated to experience moderate to dense fog conditions with a clear sky, with no weather alerts until February 9.

While Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) has seen a significant improvement from the previous month, today’s reading showed a slight increase from 214 to 253, maintaining its ‘poor’ category status at 7:00 am. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data positioned Delhi as the seventh most polluted city in India on this particular day.

Technological Boost at IGI Airport

In response to the challenges posed by dense fog conditions, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport equipped its second runway, Runway 10/28, with CAT III technology on February 3. This enhancement allows for safe landings during low-visibility conditions, even in inclement weather. Despite this technological upgrade, flight operations continued to experience delays today due to the persisting adverse weather conditions.

January’s Temperature Saga: A 13-Year Low

Reflecting on the past month, Delhi endured an unusual weather pattern with the average maximum temperature at 17.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the last 13 years. Simultaneously, the average minimum temperature stood at 6.2 degrees Celsius, marking the second lowest in 13 years.
