As bone-chilling cold and dense fog continue to envelop several regions across the country, including north and central India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forewarned that there will be no respite from these harsh weather conditions until at least January 9 (Tuesday). The persistent cold wave has led to severe cold day conditions in various areas, affecting daily life and prompting the issuance of alerts by the weather agency. Details of Cold Weather Conditions:

On Friday, cold day to severe cold day conditions were observed in many parts of Haryana, some regions of Rajasthan, and Punjab. Additionally, cold day conditions were experienced in certain pockets of Delhi and in isolated areas of West Madhya Pradesh, as reported by the IMD. The forecast indicates that this pattern is likely to persist, with some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi expecting severe cold day conditions on January 6 (Saturday) and cold day conditions on January 7 (Sunday). Isolated pockets of Rajasthan are also anticipated to experience cold day conditions on January 6.

Foggy Weather Across the Region:

Moderate fog has been observed in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Meanwhile, shallow fog has been reported in certain parts of Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and isolated pockets of East Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.

In the national capital, Delhi, the maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 14.6 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees below the normal range. The minimum temperature, however, stood at 9.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above the normal range. The city has been shrouded in a thick layer of fog, blocking out the sun, while chilly winds have added to the winter woes. A yellow alert has been issued for January 6 and January 7, indicating the severity of the weather conditions.

IMD’s Weather Forecast and Alerts:

According to the IMD, dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to prevail at night and in the morning in some parts and isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan until January 7. Dense fog in isolated pockets is expected for the subsequent 24 hours. Similar foggy conditions are predicted for West Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan on January 6, with dense fog in isolated pockets on January 7 and January 8.

Extended Forecast and No Relief in Minimum Temperatures:

The IMD forecast further states that dense fog conditions are expected for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh from January 6 to January 9. Similar conditions are predicted for West Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha until January 7. Unfortunately, no significant change in minimum temperatures is anticipated in North India during the next five days.
