Delhi, the capital city of India, woke up to a bone-chilling morning as dense fog and a cold wave enveloped the region on Monday. The city witnessed its coldest morning of the season, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 3.3 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory and even lower, at 3.1 degrees Celsius, in the Lodhi Road area. The adverse weather conditions had a significant impact on transportation, with over 100 flights delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and 18 trains facing delays.

Today Weather update:
The weather forecast for the day predicts that the minimum temperature will hover around 5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may reach 21 degrees Celsius. Throughout the day, the mercury level is expected to stay around 8 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a relatively low wind speed of approximately 2.14 m/s. The wind direction will vary around 276 degrees, with occasional gusts reaching 2.76 m/s. The sun will rise at 07:15 AM and set at 05:45 PM on Monday. Looking ahead, the seven-day weather forecast for Delhi indicates that the temperature is likely to remain at 8 degrees Celsius on Monday, followed by 12 degrees Celsius from Tuesday through Sunday.
Impact on Transportation:
The thick blanket of fog that blanketed Delhi had a significant impact on transportation. More than 100 flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, according to the flight tracker website flightradar24. The dense fog reduced visibility to almost zero, causing significant disruptions to flight schedules.
In addition to flight delays, 18 trains connecting Delhi to various parts of the country also experienced delays, further inconveniencing commuters.
Airport Advisory:
The Delhi airport issued an advisory for passengers, urging them to contact their respective airlines before embarking on their journeys. The advisory issued by the airport authorities conveyed, “In light of the dense fog, flight operations at Delhi Airport may experience disruptions. Passengers are kindly urged to get in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight status.” Additionally, the airport authorities expressed their sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused due to the challenging weather conditions. Dense fog conditions are expected to persist for at least another two hours.
Previous Day Disruptions:
The impact of dense fog and low visibility was felt on the previous day as well. On that day, a total of 10 flights had to be diverted, nearly 100 faced delays, and some were even canceled at the Delhi airport. The disruptions were primarily attributed to the adverse weather conditions, which significantly hampered airport operations.
